Last summer in Austin, Texas we broke a 155 year old record for averaging 88.4 degrees during the meteorological summer from June - August, and while I don't recall the exact number of days above 100 degrees, I do remember that the record of 69 was in jeopardy towards the end.  Lake Travis looked ... well not much like a lake.  At the end of the summer it was down to 630 feet and almost all entrances were closed.  Flash forward to today, the lake is up to 675 feet, or 5 feet below full, and it's SNOWING in Austin.  Thanks to the El Nino weather pattern, we are experiencing a wetter and cooler winter than normal here in Central Texas, and since we don't get snow often, why not enjoy it?!?!

I'm a native Texan, which means I didn't grow up driving in a lot of snow.  Seriously though, common sense can go a long way on the roads.  4x4's on ice going up hill mean you can watch a Redneck spin all four wheels while they slip and slide around.  Now I don't care who you are ... that's just funny.

We didn't get enough to shut down the city today.  The last time I remember getting that much was January 2007.  The company I was working for then had just been sold.  I was enjoying long lunches and fondly quoting Office Space with a small band of brothers from the office.  Today was a light dusting I like to think, but I said we are in Texas right?  That means there is probably a run on water, batteries, bread, and other various food items at the local grocery store.  Hoard up on groceries - this could be the beginning of Day After Tomorrow weather patterns.  I swear I saw Al Gore standing at an intersection this afternoon with a sign that read Global Warming...the end is near. (Note: author is not taking a stand on either side of global warming so save the comments ... it's funny, trust me).

I digress though.  Yes, our fair city generally is not prepared for winter weather on the roads.  As a result, I worked from home this afternoon - yes, I actually put in hours from the home office. The kids though - they love this stuff.  So we piled in the SUV, picked up the Truss boys and went to the park for a snowball fight... Sweet.

Photos are posted in the photo section, and I finally uploaded a couple of video's to the video section.
